Doing Time Poem by Theodora (Theo) Onken

Doing Time

Rating: 5.0

Grief sometimes takes prisoners
Closing off all paths to the sun
No oceans mist or tide just deadly silence inside
Leaving only sorrow with each day that's done.

Grief has no seasons to separate
Nor muddy waters to fish
No bridges to cross-which perpetuates my loss
And no visible stars to make 'a wish'.

Grief leaves permanent footprints
In the sands of this self- made cell
Where my heart still comes apart
In this-my 'life sentence'in Hell.

** Pain you know no forgiveness-
You're a constant companion everyday
I am paying my dues- fading to'the blues'
Leaving me- with nothing left to say.

Mj, thank you! . So appreciate your reading and taking the time to comment. Grief sometimes seems to be a constant in my life...and so writing about it is cleansing.

This is an amazing poem, a stunning lament. How often so many of us underestimate the true and lasting power of grief. Thanks for sharing.
