Don'T Poem by Nina Dringo

Don'T

Rating: 3.5

Whoever hates gay people
Needs a wake up call
So here you go.

Can you choose
Your hair color
Your eye color?

No
You cannot
There is no way.

Sure
You can dye your hair
But the roots will not be tamed

Sure
You can wear contacts
But you have to take them out sometime

To hate a gay person
Is to hate someone
For who they are

For what they cannot change
And even if they could change
Why should they have to?

In the Bible
It says that gay people
Should be killed

My people
That is not an excuse for your wrongdoings
Just a reason not to be Christian.

If your family
Hates gay people
Disown them.

Teach everyone
Not to hate for who they are
Not to have prejudice that cannot be proven

Teach people
That we are one and the same
Do we hate ourselves?

Our differences
Make us a stronger singular organism
Take away variance and we all fail.

To hate for who you are
Is to love who you are not
Don't.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
