Don'T Delay My Busy Day Poem by stu aitken

Don'T Delay My Busy Day

Why is there always so much delay?
As if to stifle a busy day
The petrol pump takes an age to initialise
The cash-point transaction, so slow to finalise.

Why is there so much built-in delay?
Even credit cards are so slow to pay
The PC is a particular villain of mine
With progress bars to steal my time.

Why on earth do I have to wait?
At every automatic barrier gate
And the torture of waiting for the kettle
Is enough to test the strongest mettle.

Rotating doors so slow to spin
It’ll be time to leave before I’m in
Strange that traffic lights seems to know
When you’re desperately willing the green for go.

Software downloads that take an age
As if to tease and foster rage
And is that the shriek of hyena laugh
As I stand and wait for my filling bath

If you counted all the moments lost
To process delay’s invisible cost
And could add them on to the end of life
Some delay free years; wouldn’t that be nice!
