Don'T Trust Poem by Aparna Chatterjee

Don'T Trust

Don’t trust a guy
Who insists on
Talking rather than
Writing…

For when the wind
Changes sails…
And you find yourself
In the doldrums…

He would rubbish
Off all his talks
As ‘voices’ you
Heard, your imaginations
And delusions –
Or may be,
Even if he
Did talk, he might have been
‘drunk’ to utter those
lovey-dewy words!

What he wouldn’t realise
That you would remember
Every word he said
In broad daylight
In his complete
Senses, only you
Wouldn’t have his
Writings to prove
The past.

And so he can easily
Get by…
Deserting you
For greener pastures
And younger women,
Carrying on with his
Flirtatious ways
That he always
Loves doing…

How many more
Broken hearts….
Doesn’t bother him.

I know it does
Bother you, for
Being a woman,
You want other
Women, not to
Fall prey to a man
Who insists on talking
Yet doesn’t have the ‘time’
For writing, though he
Could talk to you for
Endless hours…

Yet not a minute to
Spare when he’s turned
His back on you – yes, the
Very ‘busy’ man who would
Label you ‘crazy’ and walk
Out on you to make other women
Crazy!
Beware!
