Donal The Vet Poem by Francis Duggan

Donal The Vet

His legacy lives on in Millstreet though he died a few decades ago
And surely there never was kinder than Donal the Vet from Minor Row
Through his life he helped so many people and his door it was open to all
And when I hark back to my young days he's one that I always recall.

The legacy of Donal O Connor still lives on in Millstreet today
To help people out of their problems the man he went out of his way
He helped many through their bad patches and did not ask for favours in return
And in the lives of the few who are like him a lesson in kindness we learn.

Donal was a philanthropist and great stories of him still told
And he helped out so many people he surely had a 'heart of gold'
And though like us all he too had human frailties still he was far larger than life
He lived for people and his family and he lived for the love of his wife.

It sure was a pleasure to know him as good as one would wish to meet
And the memory of Donal O Connor forever will live in Millstreet
In the Millstreet that I grew up in his was a well known and loved face
And what could any one say of him save his heart was in the right place.
