Donated At Once Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Donated At Once

Rating: 2.8

I was simply wrecked
As soul rebelled and staked
Over wealth that was not shared
And all of sudden was declared

It was not belonging to us
But was put with us along trust
I resisted that it must be returned
Some of the members forced on us to retain

I kept mum for a while and watched
They all went for desperate search
Everything was found in abundance
The wealth had come to us by chance

My uncle had gone to distant relative
He was so much attached and selective
He preferred one of our male members
To inherit asset, manage and `remember

Uncle did not wait for final draft
He made move very fast
He lifted complete gold in hurry
Rushed home with it without any worry

He did not live for a long with incurable disease
He developed stomach cancer and felt at no ease
The asset and gold was taking his toll
We all knew about at and silently recalled

We were all concerned about that member
He too died with the shock of our being stealer
My uncle paid heavily too for ungraceful act
I had known about it but preferred not to react

Real wealth with blessings only helps in turn
Else we have to pay it back with additional return
If it is ill gotten then take it for granted
It can never be fully enjoyed or digested

We heaved a sigh with no participation
It was considered as bad intention
What we could under the circumstances?
We could have taken his consent and donated at once
