Got a life full of lies
And a face full of bruises
Her only choice
Is never what she chooses

She walked the razor's edge
So much it's now blunt
But the past cuts deeper
Than any blade could

I wonder how she's coping
Now they've turned the morphine off
I heard she flinched that night
And tore her jaw clean off

Her head is reeling
Filled with sick, daunting fears
Praying for freedom
Except her God doesn't hear

Burned and thrown out
Kicked and mistreated
She took a lot
But never what she needed

Well, there's no way back
No more hope or glory
Because when she fell from grace
She fell 32 stories

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is just something I wrote out of boredom- it holds no significance for me, I didn't put effort into it and I'm fairly certain some of these lines have already appeared in my other poems.

favorite lines so far: " Her only choice Is never what she chooses " i love the Poet's Notes! i got a little, but prolonged, laugh here: " So much it's now blunt " even I don't believe: " tore her jaw clean off" ...unless it was someone else's jaw! I'd change " or glory" to " nor glories" to make a better rhyme. to MyPoemList bri :)

Thanks for such lovely feedback! I enjoy reading your comments as much as your poems ;) And about the " jaw" thing- it's based off of a story that my mate told me: A man failed a suicide attempt as he flinched at the last second before pulling the trigger; The shotgun pellets ended up missing his brain, The man ended up missing his entire bottom jaw.

Still a touching poem that draws attention to the awful condition of drug addicts.

Nice poem, an expose of the prison of depression. It should be talked about because depression kills. Mental illness is a thing not discussed and as seen as a no go area. Thumbs up
