Down Sunset Sweet Poem by christopher veremu

Down Sunset Sweet

When I close my tired eyes
Counting mine blessings twice
Feels goodly great to realise
All is never lost with time

I dream of lands' true leaders
Whose grace yielded non bitter
Space to others on the wheel
Allow ship of state sail free

Humbled by ability of colleagues
So carry promise into the future
Walked they did into sunset sweet
Sure footed own crown of history

The wind sings this song Chissano
Seas old young rivers exalt Nyerere
Mwinyi salute from Kilimanjaro wins
Mandela sets anchor Africa's dreams

Tunisia's Bouazize martyred in heaven sits
Obasanjo's grit made Nigeria squeaky clean
Kuffour and busy Annan super cloned so lead
Africa into future bold paint sunsets sweet

Masire watered desert into new envied green
Head in clouds Zambia's great Banda dares sing
Ballad right so serenade Africa's sick children
Would it I could walk with icons same street

Sleeping in shadow of such stars dreams sweet
Here I stake claim of free will swear believe
These greats dress hope twice lucky is I being
Born of such super greats down on sunset's feet
