Dragon Less Poem by Paul Warner

Dragon Less

All around the world,
There were dragons,
so we're told
Through art and verse.

Suppose there were.
The Chinese dragon long
and tailed, flew in the air.
The western dragon
more earthbound.

Both breathing fire,
Suppose they were,
Mechanical noisy
earth movers.
Mining in a robotic way,
For gain not understood.

Maybe from the sky they came.
Every oil well breathes fire.
Took what they wanted
then left.
Bereft we created the stories
that are trapped in our minds.

Maybe they'll return,
but I think they have got,
better things to do,
than fight horsebacked knights,
or the perpetration of myths.
