Dream Another Dream Poem by Xavier Cole

Dream Another Dream

I dreamt I was a king
Then again who did I think I was
I told myself to dream another dream
To escape the reality that being that kind of person
That was respected was beyond my grasp
And I walked away
I dreamt I was a pioneer the next day
That explored all different realms of science
But reality once again pierced my heart
And shot my brains into the trash I thought I was
Telling me insults saying
'Pioneering is for the ones with innovation
The ones with true intellect'
And I walked away once again
The next night I didn't have a dream but had a nightmare
Darknesses of all kinds surround me
Murder, Death, Destruction, Evil
Yet reality stayed still
As I suffered, and then...
I see a light, after many years of nightmares
As though I have died
I crawl and chase and pleaded
For one minute, one second, where the light shut out the darkness
The more I ran the bigger and brighter it became
Until...
I grab it! And the light transformed
Into a crown
Put atop my head to give me power once again
Then into a microscope to help with
The cure for cancer and the common cold
That light, that tiny speck
After I had grown older and moved on
Had followed me
And waited for the kid who was scared of everything
To turn into the teen who was afraid of talking to girls
And become the man fit for the dreams so big
It took decades to finish
10 years later
I dreamt I was a king...
