Dreaming Of Happy Poem by Dean Meredith

Dreaming Of Happy

We're always sorry
After showing our worst
To the ones we adore
Who love us the most?
Taking us back
Again and again
Despite their best thoughts
Hearts bigger than forever
Innocent stray kittens
Full of soft hope
Blind as street lights
Searching for stars
Impossibly far
From homely drains
And thin spider friends
All dreaming of happy
But settling for tomorrow
One crazy moon
After another
Smiling at pain
Through rain soaked mud
Forgiving their brutes
Poor sweet brothers
Out to impress
Those fatherly ghosts
Blowing breathy fingers
Shaking one more game
Loaded dice spinning
Praying like hellfire
For him and for them
Rolling point on point
With crushed velvet slide
Until the flat stop
Of skid row bone
And their little heads
Closer than a family
Milk white together
Pink tongues lapping
Hungry as a wedding
Dancing just for fun
Taking us back
Again and again
