Drifting In Sweet Memories Poem by norman hale

Drifting In Sweet Memories

not sure where this came from but it's been coming to me for days now

There he sits in his old rocking chair
Drifting way back in to his yester years
He's wide awake, but in a dreamy daze
As his memories flow through, he sheds his tears

Like the time, his grandpa first took him fishing
A long time ago, when he was just a lad
And when he got a puppy of his own
And the day it died, he remembers being sad

Then there was that time
He remembers getting his very first kiss
That was one of his favorite memories
And one he's glad he didn't miss

His mind drift to the time
He was called to go off to war
He was just a man back then lucky for him
He only came back with one scar

He remembers returning home from war
Just in time to meet his soon to be bride
And as she walked down that isle
He stood there and smiled with pride

And when his first child was born
He held it and cried at the same time
He raised several, to be honest and kind
And now his memories goes through one at a time

His old rocking chair rocks forward
Every now and again, as he
Remembers each one sitting on his knee
Telling him things, his face has a slight grin

He drifts back to the time his wife died
Shortly after being married over fifty years
He remembers of her sweet ol heart
And his face can't help but shead those tears

He remembers the time his dad taught him to hunt
And he got his first big ten point buck
He can still taste that fresh meat
And remembers it took a lot of patience and a lot of luck

He remembers how it helped to feed the family
As well as the fish his grandpa taught him to catch
And how hard it was raising kids
When a job was the hardest thing to catch

His mind starts to drift off more
But suddenly there's a knock upon the door
It's his daughter wanting to take him fishing
He gathers up his things and head for the water shore
