Drink Poem by Jane Irvine

Drink

Rating: 5.0

I knew that u liked me, the first night that we met, a decision one day u would live to regret.

It was a night to remember, u held me tight, I went back to yours and we partied all night.

But the morning was different u didn't want to know, so angry with yourself, said I had to go.

It wasn't so bad that You wanted me away, because I know for a fact id be back one day.

I'd left my mark deep within your sole. It lingers inside you and has taken a hold.

I'll give you your dues it had been quite a while, but as soon as you seen me, you beamed such a smile.

We sat up all night, and you opened your heart I knew right then we'd never part.

I gave you comfort, the day you got fired, I made u feel love, strong and admired.

I was there beside you when your wife walked away, I made u realise it's better this way.

The day you got sick, you broke down in tears, again I was there, Iv been here for years.

Iv watched you change from the man you used to be, I take credit for this its all down to me.

As you lay dying in your hospital bed, regrets of the past churn in your head.

Your body's done in from years of abuse, your kidneys not working your livers no use.

But still you crave me, till the bitter end. Now rest in peace my dear old friend.

With sobering eyes, for once you can see. That day you regret, the day you met me.
