Drinking Song Poem by gershon hepner

Drinking Song

Rating: 4.0

On the one hand lies wine,
on the other lies piety;
with thy hand in mine
ignore what society
wants you to choose,
and drink from my chalice.
Society’s dues
can bankrupt with malice;
only juice of the grape
drunk with you in my eyes
provides an escape
from its laws and its lies.

One of my drinking songs goes like this... Breakfast I had some whiskey in the corner – and a beer beside the bed – left over from the night before when they attributed… to an altered state of mind a drunken state of bliss, that tucked me into bed last night – with an endearing kiss. I woke to find them waiting there and much to their behest… I pondered once – I pondered twice – and drank them both for breakfast! Dan Tharp 2/20/05
