Drunk Driving Poem by amanda eckert

Drunk Driving

Do you have any sympathy as you watch in the freezing snow
This wasn’t supposed to happen how were you supposed to know
These people stare with a lost look in there eyes making no sound
You as well watch As the little casket is lowered into the ground
Yeah it wasn’t supposed to happen but it did it can not be undone
That child’s blood is on you hands now count down from ten to one
What were your thoughts when you were behind that wheel
When you hit that car what emotions did you feel
One more beer it’ll be okay as you continued to drink
Your friends even warned you, but you said you can still think
You can get home its only ten maybe fifteen minuets away
You got out of it with only a scratch but they are not ok
You can walk but the mom is now forever in a wheelchair
Are you going to try to apologize? Don’t you even dare
How can you even say sorry when you know its far to late
She’s looking at you as her gaze hardens filled with hate
Can you look into her eyes? when her look makes your blood run cold
Of course you didn’t know You never know what the future will hold
Your nothing but a monster, a murderer to her even if you beg and plea
You determined you cruel fate when you pick up your key
Your pleas and cries will be silenced there is no maybe
You’re the one that has caused her to bury her baby
