Dust To Dust Poem by Richard Phiri

Dust To Dust

I was 18 when i first confided in a piece of paper and my pen was present to give testimony of what transpired
And there i was,
all alone seated on the edge of my bed with a note pad to take note of what i was going through
And with a leaking face
i told my secrets to pages of a book as i witnessed
my heart bleed words that werepain inspired
Perplexed and vexed
i couldnt comprehend why i was experiencing such a dull and dark moment when the other day the sky seemed so blue
Then it dawned on me, you
have been feeding off fantasies and believing in fairytales
reality tells no such things as happly ever afters these were thoughts echoing in the back of my head
And I heard them loud and clear enough to wake me upbecause i had been sleeping on my dreams
See
I never knew that i could write not until a girl broke my heart
Yes this was the genesis of what you now term as poetry
They say there is light at the end of every tunnel and i was patient enough to wait and find out what that darkness was all about
And at the end of my voyage i discovered a land filled with beautiful words that could numb my hurt and i called it poetry
With no rules to follow i just let my heart flow endless streams of emotions
My writing was and has always been unorthodox because i've learned to always think outside the box
I know no boundaries or limits and am not scared of heights either
My heart speaks art now experience is really the best teacher
Am a product of pain and my ink is always giving out testimonies
Every piece i give out is a part of me but ironically it makes me complete which in the first place shouldn't be the case
But that's justhow love is
Because when ever am giving you these little parts of me i never expect any complimentaries
in return
Genuine love is giving expecting now in return
And this is what i have for this art so when i die please remember me for the passion i have for this game
And am glad to have played my part in positively influencing the world with words
And this is the power of the tongue
So until death do us apart i do promise to stay loyal to this pen until dust to dust
Then at last my story will be told and the legacy will live on
Refer to these poems when am gone.
