Lawrence S. Pertillar (February/'47 / Connecticut, USA)
Easy Efforts
With effort and tireless nights I spent,
Hoping what I did would bring to others a benefit.
And then one day it dawned on me,
How my efforts were awaited by others...
With impatience to steal the 'credit' from me.
There must have been something about me that convinced,
What I did was easy to take.
And I would be left pleased.
There must have been something about me that convinced,
What I did was only done,
To gain from them an acceptance to be won.
With effort and tireless nights I spent,
Hoping what I did would bring to others a benefit.
And then one day it dawned on me,
How my efforts were awaited by others...
With impatience to steal the 'credit' from me.
And today with my efforts from them removed,
I hear it from gossip lips...
How I have been mean, rude and cruel.
But nothing do I hear of how their efforts are made,
With attempts to prove...
What I did to do others found easy too!
'And don't use 'my' name! '
On my efforts I spend sleepless night to complete?
Believe me...
That wont be a problem at all.
In fact...
What IS your name?
And WHO are 'you'?
