Easy Sunday Poem by Lulu Gee

Easy Sunday

Sitting on my lounger
On the sunny patio
Drowsily relaxing
Listening to the radio.
The Acer’s gently wavering
In the softest breeze
And honeysuckle’s
Pollinated by the honey bees.

The aroma of spring lamb
Is wafting through the air
As we sit on the patio
Debating De la Mare.
My soufflé’s in the oven
I pray that it won’t sink
And a Merlot’s been uncorked
For us to merrily drink.

So I’m chilling on this lounger
Relaxing before lunch
Something’s caught my eye
What’s more I have a hunch
That in my Grecian urn
There’s a comfy mossy nest
Home to a little visitor
Sporting a scarlet vest.

My hand reaches out to
A plume of ornate grass
So tactile and visible
Like a Minton demitasse.
Looking to the sky...
The sun dips behind a cloud
Just as the little robin
Chirrups shrill and loud.

The oven timer’s pinging
The lamb is surely done
The lemon soufflé’s risen
And yarns will now be spun!
Laughter rings out gaily
As I serve my special guest,
Leaving the tireless robin
To feather her own sweet nest
