Edwin Arlington Robinson Poem by Francis Duggan

Edwin Arlington Robinson

Rating: 4.0

For one who never fathered children or never had a wife
He was one who knew so much about life
Inspired by the lives of the people he knew as a boy
His verses still live and may they never die

Edwin Arlington Robinson once scaled the heady heights of fame
And though his by no means a forgotten name
He is not as well remembered as he ought to be
As there were not so many great as he.

The poet who grew up in Gardiner in Maine
From a virtual unknown rose to literary acclaim
Late in his life his star did rise and rise
Thrice in his fifties he won the Pulitzer Prize.

More than six decades since his death in thirty five
But the poet's verse is still very much alive
In all of his poems all of the human feelings there
The joy, hope and love and the sadness and despair.

Born in Tide Head in eighteen sixty nine
And as a poet he matured like good wine
The good wordsmith to his roots remained true
For all he did was to write of those he knew.
