Ego Poem by Dereck Gibbs

Ego

My ego
A confession of self mutilation
A possession of my obsession
My ego is my invention
Or is it i am an creation of my ego
An experiment of vanity proportion
A perpetuated haughtiness of faithful adulation of self
This conversion inappropriate to my place
Humility was sacrificed as a lamb to my image, my God
This creature that devours hours
The mirror judges an arrogant image hollow of humanity
Consciousness of my own identity
Created an inflated feeling of superiority
This fiend called pride the reason I lied to myself and said I am perfect
But my imperfection blinded to my imperfections
The flaws made by the law of God constituting me as a man
The lack of moderation of my own idolization designated my fate to being obscene
I sinned in my infidelity loving me more than God
As I lay in fornication of myself I felt forsaken from His heavenly grace
And now I’m reminded of my place
The reality of my stupidity was I already died inside
Abandoning my life in God to lust of my reflection
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who’s going to save me from this fall?
