Ego Poem by Izik Alcox

Ego

Ignore the pain the voice said
Listening to the voice in my head
Sick of emotionally being dead
Ignore the limit of your thread

You don't need them and their support
When you need them their help is short
To them friendship is a sport
Always greedy is their exhort

Magnanimously you only hurt yourself
Allowing them to profit themself
If only you'd listen to oneself
Yet he ignores himself

Leave me alone you
What you say may be true
This I already knew
but the truth you construe

Leave me be bitter voice
Its always been my choice
The day you leave I'll rejoice
A smile I will hoist

This ego I fight
Some use as sight
Their guiding light
For mine I hold spite

Don't ever let it win
It'll only lead to sin
Fight it from within
Don't let it even begin

Get far away
Keep it that way
Or it'll play
And make your day grey

true, true...in class we are currently studying self-esteem and what impacts it, both positively and negatively...your poem is an excellent example of the latter...
