Either to you, Dagestan my epic Rasul Gamzatov

* * *
Either to you, Dagestan my epic,
I do not to pray,
Either you I do not to love,
Either I am in your crane village
By the parted bird to be?

Dagestan, everything that people gave to me,
I on the honour with you will divide,
My awards and medals
On your tops I will pin.

I will devote to you the sonorous hymns
And the words transformed into the verse,
Only burka of the woods you present to me
And papakha of the snow tops!

Rasul Gamzatov.
While the Earth spins.
Makhachkala, 'Daguchpedgiz' 1976.
