Elizabeth's Lily Poem by Deborah White

Elizabeth's Lily

If I had to choose a flower
to echo the true essence of you,
Which would it be?
The romantic rambling rose,
the shy sweet sentimental snowdrop,
the perfect pretty poppy.
If I open my eyes to a flower in bloom,
what blossom do I see?

If I had to choose a flower for you
it would be the water lily,
the lovely lady of the lake.
With her smooth soft creamy mood,
her captivating charm,
her fair sweet grace.
Like her you wear a tranquil radiant air;
supposed on an attractive face.
Both with a flawless sunny smile,
so much alike; each a true reflection
of satin and perfume and lilywhite lace.

And so like her you carry an aura of calm,
with a hidden depth and a unique quality
that all who know you can readily see.
Not for you the vivid colours
of the precocious pansy,
the transparent temperament
of the thorny rose.
The vulnerability of the velvet orchid.
If I had to choose a flower for you

The beautiful white water lily,
The lovely Lady of the lake;

It would always be.
