Embers Poem by Viola Grey

Embers

Rating: 4.2

Every ember of the fire
clouds a deeper, darker desire.
Orange glow fades as grey
upon our love another day.
I am but one in our hearts,
together we are torn apart
and nothing lasts another day
when - knees wearied - we replay
our begging words
as yet unheard.
You search again for my soul,
I am yours forever more.
Nothing warms this icy dread
more than promises kept.
Bathed in fire, this cold guilt
meets demons we'd thought killed.
Unknown secrets now reveal
nothing true in all we feel,
nothing broken can ever heal.
In fire's flames the warmth, we steal.
Encompassing our love grown cold
broken dreams take control
'till evetually we reluctantly pray,
in fires glow signalling summers day
driving winter into memory,
as love's embers reamain a dream.

Ember is a flickering fire soon to die, but with love aglow it will come to blaze again as a new day! A 10.

This one touched my heart, as it is so uncanty how so many of us experience similar circumstances throughout our life. Well done.

Wonderfully written. ‘Bathed in fire this cold guilt, meets demons we thought killed.’ Oh, how many a man like me can relate. 10.
