Endless Sleep? Poem by Janice Walkden

Endless Sleep?

If you slipped away this moment
Is it an 'endless sleep' you'll find?
When you wake up in another place
Your body you've left behind

Your loved ones they are crying
You see them as they weep
You watch them kiss that body
The one you've left asleep

The ones you've shared your life with
and the children who have grown
All stand there in great sorrow
for the loss of you they mourn

What can you do to convince them
To help take away their pain
They think you're gone forever
Yet you stand there all the same

You try to say 'I love you'
You try to say 'Don't cry'
You try to shout to all of them
Hey.. this is not goodbye!

But oh they cannot hear you
No matter what you do
They think you've gone forever
they cry for the love of you

And so we have the messengers
The great 'postal service' of love
The ones who help build bridges
Of communication from above

They are our own 'Earth Angels'
(though perfect they are not)
They try to comfort and help us
What a special job they've got!

Their gifts are truly awesome
You speak and they hear true
A message of love & validation
for everyone you knew

For everyone who will listen
and all who will believe
There is no 'endless sleep' my friend
and there's no need to grieve

When we each make our journey
In comfort we will find
The messengers there to help us
and our loved ones left behind.
