Entitlement Poem by Shruti Goswami

Entitlement

Of course
I need to give reasons
Why I need this
Instead of begging for it
Or whining for it
I need to give reasons
Because I never needed to give
Or take any undue advantage
Because giving reasons
Are for those who didn't need to compromise
Cajole or fawn
For something they are not entitled to.

I need to give reasons
To let them know
Being what I am, what I do
You ought to have given me
What I deserved
Long ago.
You gave without reason
Things to people
Money or material
Without asking what they would do
They never needed to give a reason
That would suffice to humour you
But I still need to give
Reason after reason
Well crafted, logical
Appealing as well
To let you know
What you already do.
Reasons, giving and knowing
Is all I am entitled to.
