Episthemes Poem by B. Sven Telander

Episthemes

Uxorious mandrakes drowning
in deciduous ambergris,
the reft dross and rathe casque
with contrapuntal evanescence
and druidic differences
in conjunction
with analytic paralysis
allow reverse face-lifts
when old is vogue;
the nicotine mendicants
bumming cancer from strangers
while a cricket symphony stops
under heavy grass flattening boots;
the joyous rage of engagement
wants to be a ghost in nature
yet active as nature too
finding a way to take
the mind’s misdemeanors
joining the spiders
underneath the bridge,
while a twilight bat, an early riser
flies through webs on street signs
such a penurious agglomeration, salubrious parsimony,
mellifluous, indigent, and prepossessed largesse
proprioceptive epicycles and arcs;
the clinician’s ebullient etiology
produces a stultified meniscus,
a priapic iconography full
of sagacious simulacrum
as loathsome gastropods
rule the planet;
anamnestic via ersatz profundity
in a sinister harmonic basis
yielding complex chromatic dissonance
though the moon can smile or frown
or be as enigmatic as a luminescent poker chip,
a touch of darkness interlarded with valuation
in any church, tariqa, sangha, synagogue or ashram;
bejeweling an already perfect face,
emerald eyes wink at how nothing is free
in the economy of the cosmos.
