Eternal Love Poem by Jaime Montanez Salcedo

Eternal Love

Rating: 5.0

It was far too beautiful for art,
The vivid green foliage did spring cajole
With blooms sweetest of all scents to impart,
Refreshing with deliciousness the heart,
And ecstasy and love the longing soul.

A songbird harmonized a mirthful sound,
Relishing in elated melody,
And balmy breeze gently hugged the ground,
Whispering tenderness in which did abound,
As if in sweet thrall to a Love's story.

Then, a vision of loveliness' bequest,
Incarnation of beauty and candor,
Made her way pursuing an idle quest
Midst fragrant roses, in which, was delighted guest,
Cradling in her heart bounteous ardor.

For she was a fairest nymph shedding grace,
Radiating as diamond in the sunset
A warm glow over her beautiful face,
Her lips as if poppy's petals did replace,
And brown eyes wherein golden flecks set.

Walnut, bronzed blossom of silky hair,
Iridescent, at the sunlight's caress,
A flush her cheeks stained gloriously fair,
A silhouette which harmony took care,
Thus, to be loved, and lover be to bless

What a strange thing was fate, to lonely young man,
Who wandered about to unforeseen bliss,
Unknown to his heart of poor artisan,
Like all who love, at first sight his love began,
And to his gaze lent the warmness of a kiss.

Golden scenery splendidly strange,
Radiating from the horizon edge,
Embraced them with a delicious change,
As they sat down, mid gleaming daisies' range,
When his voice came sweeter with his love's pledge.

They fell in love, and burning fire was lit,
Nurtured by intense passion running free,
Yet, to their pure innocence did befit
In such an ecstasy, did their hearts commit
To vow of pure love as love can only be.

Their words of love, like nectar to the bee,
Ventured in passions, which consume,
Gift to summer's blaze, and thoughts fancy-free,
Finding their joys, in garden full of glee,
Gladly breathing the honeysuckle in bloom.

Her lips trembled, as petals in the breeze,
Sensing devoted fervor in his eyes,
Arousing their heart with many a tease,
They were stolen by love, wanting to seize
At least each other soul, in silence sighs.

In their utmost ecstasy, for ever more,
His revered love did constantly prove,
And to her in lovely words he swore,
Joining his lips to hers pleased galore,
In each kiss their oaths for eternal love,

Somewhat before her time, death came to her,
Like gust of wind weeping a tender leaf,
And dreadful hours, seemingly forever,
Wielded pain and sorrow, assuaging never,
Grasped his heart in inconsolable grief.

A waxing red sky, if from blood oozing sun,
Illumined her concealed burial mound
By opalescent mist which had begun;
As was heard with his laments, when all was done,
A songbird last notes, then no other sound.

He mused on his fate, desolate and sour,
In paralyzing torment and hopelessness,
So for relief of his anguish did he scour
Each passing day and every hour.
Alas! He only found more loneliness.

With vacillating steps he approached her grave,
His heart in sorrow, his soul beset by fears,
Fell on his knees, and for his death did crave,
To her a wild flowers bouquet he gave,
Gathered by him, drenched with his tears.

Perhaps because his wish was so profound,
His dear wish at last was consummated,
And in death joined his lover at sundown'd,
As his lifeless body dropp to the ground,
Seeking her love where for him she waited.

Beside each other, they were put to rest,
Embossed in stone their names testified
Where love dwelled forever at its best,
In silent sleep, cradled in their quiet breast
Seeming living fire, thus time had defied.

Their desolate tombstones longtime forgotten,
Concealed by the shade of old, gnarled tree,
Their names effaced by mosses dew sodden,
In oblivion, lush ivy shields their den,
But there forever, love eternal be.
