Even After The Much Needed Rain Poem by RIC BASTASA

Even After The Much Needed Rain

i am dry
a river bed whose pebbles are wearing
dead moss

i wait for your rain
it is not only me who needs water here
you must rain
and even flood us

we are dry
we are not afraid of drowning
to your excesses
we have long died even when the smell of the rain

invades our
desert.
