Every Jesus Poem by Kris Whelan (1971)

Every Jesus

Every fire has an everlasting flame;
we get fifteen minutes of fame
Every dog they say should have his day, l
ike every child should have its say
Every fool can be so easily led
But can every Jesus resurrect the dead?
Every open door can so easily shut;
every rose has a thorn that can deeply cut
Every bridge can so easily burn like
the carrousel is supposed to turn
Some of us just stay in bed
But can every Jesus resurrect the dead?

Trust in me I have the power, got it all stored in my ivory tower
How many Jesus’ can there be? I have to tell you; one my friend

Every fish in the ocean swims;
we’ve gotta start somewhere so let’s begin
Just we don’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there,
just you’re not here doesn’t mean that I don’t care
One billion children that need to be fed
But can every Jesus resurrect the dead?
Every black cat should bring me luck, like turning pages in a book
Every cloud may carry rain, like every cut that brings me pain
Now I’ve listened to all you’ve said
But can every Jesus resurrect the dead?

Trust in me I have the power, got it all stored in my ivory tower
How many Jesus’ can there be? I have to tell you; one my friend
