Everyone I Knew Is Gone
Everyone I knew is gone
The birds have flown away
Toward some secret place they know.
Leaving me alone to gaze
At the vacant trees
As a spirit wind blows through their limbs
But there’s a stillness
In my heart,
For all my friends are gone
I wait alone for the messenger
To come to me some night
And say to me with steady words
“It’s now time for you to go.”
