Exceeds Expectations Poem by Tessa Gaoses

Exceeds Expectations

I expected pain
But not one so excruciating

I expected heartache
But not so sharp

I expected to miss you
But not so terribly

I expected to wish you were still here
But not to anticipate it

I expected that your birthday will be hard
But not so unbearable

I expected to grieve
But not so afresh

I am realizing now that the reality is much worse
It is much more multiplied than what I expected

The pain I am feeling is worse than I thought
It exceeds how I expected your birthday to be
