Expiry Poem by Lovemore Lamwa

Expiry

Thus ordered the day, rise open your eyes, gaze
A tortured, grief stricken soul thereon a bed hang
Vehement thin fire underneath mine skin set ablaze
An amorous desire down from earth every bird ever sang

Come back bear record of the new tree born
Strong bough fair it well, covered in dew respire
Vision blurred, distracted to perceive through dawn
Leaves curled, attracted, conceive soon expire

At such a love shed in despair in sun so spread
Which by and by ignites a heartily care that rest
Fresh’s own self lie, mind’s frame rare in the head
From leaf torn, shy, distance tame sunrise from west

In the soil extirpated, a seed ready to shoot strong
Against much toil, such young love die before long
