Extraction Poem by Miriam Carreon

Extraction

pen poised
midair.
thoughts grasping in the air
gasping for breath
gasping,
desperately in search
for something.

what
if
nothing comes?

lunge
seize
hope
for material
to materialize.

is it in the air?
is it around me?
deep inside of me?
where
are
the words?

to capture the essence of thought
to articulate life
to frame abstraction
to infuse blood and skin
to the intangible.

thoughts rush.
heart races
breath escalates.

pen poised,
unites
with paper.

Extraction begins.
