Eyes Were Opened -Lk.24: 31 Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Eyes Were Opened -Lk.24: 31

Upon the ground I found a book
Inside was good as new
I took it home and had a look
Reading it through and through

That God should share His truth with me!
He even came and died
Again to rise, to set us free
These eyes just opened wide

I ventured God to speak on high
“Lord of Heaven and earth
To sin no more I can but try
If given second birth

In Christ Your Son I now believe
I know You hear me pray
Allow this wayward child receive
Your Light; to guide ‘The Way’

I pray Your Spirit dwell within
Give comfort when I’m down
Your Flame, to purge my every sin
That robs me of life’s crown”

Right then! I felt The Spirit’s touch
The joy my heart so thrilled
The Son of God who cares so much
My splendid need fulfilled

Who is this God I’ve grown to love?
How awesome is His might?
That He should leave His throne above?
And clad a child in Light?

Who shows we’ve lived just like a fool
Who guides in all we do
Who loves each like a precious jewel
And gives us life anew…
