Eyes Wide Shut Poem by Vaibhav Kulkarni

Eyes Wide Shut

With Eyes always Scarlet, and a head that keeps throbbing,
Waking up before dawn, his sleep is too disturbing,
Feeling blue and grey all day, not very differnt at night,
His mind is always racing, confused between wrong and right.
Sometimes very excited, but then again like a sloth,
Always Messing up everything, inviting everyones wrath.
Focussing on nothing, cant remember his last meal,
Thinking of that one snooze, a nap he cant even steal.
With migraines as his best friends and caffine in his veins,
He's unsure of where he's going, steering through hazy lanes.
Lying awake at night, with thoughts that have no meaning,
They flood his mind like a river, controlling his being.
So sometimes he paces up and down, in the dead of the night,
But retuns back to bed again, cursing his miserable plight.
He tosses, turns and talks to himself, but nothing makes it go,
The images of his murdered wife, the fact that he's on death row.
