Failure Poem by Francis Duggan

Failure

Of the successful we only do hear
And of failure only the fear we do fear
But at the end it will not matter at all
If you and your life others do not recall.

If in death others for you do not grieve
And in your life nothing great you did achieve
But as long as you have not harmed anybody in a wilful way
You will rest in peace in life you've done okay.

Failure is a word some people abuse
That to put down others too often they use
People who to them any wrong have not done
Or people who never have harmed anyone.

Like the great tree of the forest who once stood proud and tall
To the scythe of the reaper we eventually fall
Then the one who died as a billionaire will only be the same
As the one who died without a cent to his or her name.
