Falling Poem by Jean Renwick

Falling

I stand by the river looking at darkness.
There is the moon and there are stars
though I don't know which constellations are what.
The moon reflects bright and gently rippled
in the silken water.
It is you.
But where are the stars?
From there to here, their light gets swallowed
by the inky blackness.
I am those stars and the moon, it is you.

Only you.

The beach looks alive this morning.
There is the sun and there are shadows
thrown and stretching behind all obstacles.
The sun shines solid yet shimmering
onto the sand.
It is you.
But where fall the shadows?
Dark or fading, their weight depends
on a passing whim.
I am concealed in those shadows and the sun, it is you.

I don't want the world.
Only you.
