False Pride Poem by Altair Laahad

False Pride

Rating: 5.0

A patriot raised his fist to the horizon
as if punching his future
into certainty,
or avenging the uncertain legacy
of his forefathers who founded
a nation erect as a dam
ready to contend against the flood
that carried Noah's ark,
or to contain the black stone-carrying birds
flocking from the south;
Now, before his eyes faced the rising sun,
his fist melted into the false pride
of his haphazard birth
