Father's Day Poem Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Father's Day Poem

Dear Father
Why should I bother?
Father's Day is just another day
You say...

Did you not dream of me
Before my birthing day
Did you not for me in the world
For me, try to make way

Did you not rock me on your knee
Welcome me as your newborn baby
Make faces at me
Point out things to see

Did you not carry me in your arms
Teach me to run
Shield me from harm
Didn't you once show me a farm

Didn't you show me the birds and the fish
Direct me to eat the food from my dish
Struggle to grant each childhood wish
Remember the walk by the beach?

Didn't you guide me
and polish my shoes
and teach me to fairly win and lose
and show me about storybooks and news

Father you ask why bother...
Really, there are too many reasons to list
I'm sure even if I was careful many would be missed
But Father I just mean to thank you for this...

Thank you father for bringing me into the world
For all the times you tried
And doing your best at what being a father takes
Though this day comes once a year

Happy Father's Day
So let me celebrate you with cheer.
I love you always!
So glad you're here!
