Finally, The Beginning Poem by Romesh De Silva

Finally, The Beginning

Darkness, Bang! Click
“Carpe diem”, I whisper
2: 05am
My eyes open, smile again
I rise to my feet
The gun and my head meet
Eyes clenched, release my finger from the trigger
The frown on my face gets bigger
3 steps back into a seat I sat
The clock strikes 3
The demons, they thrive as my soul looks doomed
My vision blurred with tears of hope
My choices, a gun or a rope
I dropped the pen I held so tight
The lamp in the corner so dim, low light
I write a note to family and friends
Its title 'Finally, the beginning of my life’s end'.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is one of the poems from something me and a couple of my friends call 'Poetry Standoff', Something me and a two friends did one cold night in a dirty London apartment with no heating (yes it was the middle of winter!) A title is randomly said and then we all had 3 minutes to write a poem before pens had to be down. ☺ we ended up writing 30 but this is the only ones I have. My friend chris has the rest. Hope you enjoy. These are my versions of the random topics. It was great to see the different poems that were born from different people ☺ I have uploaded a few others with this same explanation.
