Fire And Ice Poem by Kayaeisha Shaw

Fire And Ice

Stopped in my tracks
by an unexpected sight.
There were two paths,
one path with Hades
and the other one with Zeus.

Why must I choose?
Why can’t I be Switzerland?
Neutral as can be.
The life that I had lived
led me to the unknown.

Stuck in purgatory
until I decide to choose.
I want to be my own ruler.
Not stuck in a dilemma,
more like an ultimatum.

If I had to choose,
I would choose Hades.
It is like choosing between fire and ice.
Ice is cool;
it could be destroyed.

But reformed into many different states.
Fire is passionate,
it is made to destroy.
Also made to bring light.
It changes into something aesthetic.

Fire never settles.
Fire is free.
That is what I want to be.
Hades is my fire,
And Zeus is my ice.

One with out the other,
is not balanced, it would cause chaos.
So why should I choose?
If I choose fire,
I would be free but unattainable

but if I choose ice,
I would be too attainable.
I need both.
Therefore, I choose purgatory.

Interesting concept and battle. I like the references to the Greek gods. Great poetry.
