This is my favorite poem of Frost's...at least it is the one I long ago committed to memory because of the rhymes along with the uneven meter and the marvelous imagery. It is always food for thought, depending on whether you are dealing with ice or fire in your own life. (Right now, I'm dealing with much ice. :)

this poem is great because it can be viewed in many different ways. it can be love and hate, it can also be ment literally, like the armageddon theory versus ice age theory. but the biggest reason that i like this poem is because it is so true...

With a name like Frost, you'd think he'd have favored ice? But, either way, by fire or ice, the point is well made.

He's not saying he would like the world to end at all. The fire represents love and passion and his point is that those will destroy us before hate, but that hate is still perfectly capable of doing harm as well.

I have always liked this poem because it presents the duality of a human. That enough coldness or even passion is presented in a soul, put in terms of Doomsday-esque metaphors.
