Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire

Frost reflects on human faults in this poem. Like his other poems, he uses simple words in poems with deeper meanings. I believe that in this poem he is talking about our faults as humans. Fire, represents the, passion and aggression we are filled with. Ice is the cold, shallow things we do to each other. Are we someday going to end ourselves? I must agree, I also favor fire. We have the tendency to use this weapon more than ice. (Report) Reply

Fire and Ice is a really beautiful poem. When I was younger I happened on this poem and loved it! But as I get alittle older, I don't really like it in the same way, I used to wish for fire, but now i think ice would be better. (Report) Reply

This is my favorite poem of Frost's...at least it is the one I long ago committed to memory because of the rhymes along with the uneven meter and the marvelous imagery. It is always food for thought, depending on whether you are dealing with ice or fire in your own life. (Right now, I'm dealing with much ice. :) (Report) Reply

this poem is great because it can be viewed in many different ways. it can be love and hate, it can also be ment literally, like the armageddon theory versus ice age theory. but the biggest reason that i like this poem is because it is so true... (Report) Reply

With a name like Frost, you'd think he'd have favored ice? But, either way, by fire or ice, the point is well made. (Report) Reply

He's not saying he would like the world to end at all. The fire represents love and passion and his point is that those will destroy us before hate, but that hate is still perfectly capable of doing harm as well. (Report) Reply

I have always liked this poem because it presents the duality of a human. That enough coldness or even passion is presented in a soul, put in terms of Doomsday-esque metaphors. (Report) Reply

Poem of the Day

poet Wilfred Owen

All sounds have been as music to my listening:
Pacific lamentations of slow bells,
The crunch of boots on blue snow rosy-glistening,
Shuffle of autumn leaves; and all farewells:
