Fireworks/At This Time Of Year (A Dedication) (2007 - Posted November 08)

Rating: 0.5

If only i could do one thing,
i'd go back to when i was young -
a time when two sets of footprints lined
the sands of where i'm from.
I know that you would join me there
if you hadn't lost yourself
somewhere among the photographs
and memories on your shelf.
I remember how you said
that you loved the light of day,
and how nothing in this world
could take that light away -
but therein lies the problem
that, while i enjoy the sun,
along the sands that my youth once traced
are the footprints of just one.

You know, i think it's kind of funny
that it always seems to be
that people don't get celebrated
while they're still around to see.
Well, now you've got your flowers -
but for what use, i don't know.
Maybe you're up above,
but i think you're only down below.
and every single time you smiled
i'd get lost in your eyes -
for despite your tender years
you knew a wealth of lessons wise.
and though our days of running wild
are now just memories i hold dear,
you know you'll always be remembered
at this time of year.
