Firstborn Poem by Laughton J. Collins, Jr.

Firstborn

i was the firstborn
in my father’s house
all of the sadness
belonged to me
my two sisters
came after
they brought with them
all of the laughter
that kept my sadness
hidden for so long

i was the firstborn
in my father’s house
the kingdom of heaven
can wait
i’m not lost yet.
