Fish Poem by Jon Treloar

Glimmer of Blue
A Flash of Silver
Something approaches that I dread

Perfectly still
Never Breathing
As it passes overhead

Forever Prowling
Hunger growling
On my flesh to be fed

A Flash, a glimmer
An Awful shimmer
I fly from the seabed

From standing start
I dash, I dart
Heart pounding in my head

Just behind me
Flying desperately
Soon I will be dead

Gaping, Yawning
Blue Eternity
A smear of fading red

You think a god
would protect you more
if you were me instead?

Life is chance
An emotional dance
Life in every death
