'Fish'
This is a message to all the unsuccessful fishermen in the world
You hear the fish in the sea are plenty
And while this might be the case
It still baffles so many
How hard a catch is to make
With the seemingly infinite amounts of fish in the water
You are tempted to dive in and reach frantically for the nearest
But each desperate forceful splash and swing only drives the fish farther
Leaving you tired watching your desires quickly disappearing
Prepare to let your standards sink
If luck is your only lure
But do not sail on a pool of patience until
you have bait to vouch for your spool
For there are some of you who sit with nothing to offer
Wondering why the fish go to other fishermen who impale them with spears
other fishermen who only fish for sport and temporary cheer
Why?
Because unlike you, those are the fishermen who actually bother
While you repeat to yourself that the fish will find you
If only they know what a good fisherman you are on the inside
You declare that you aren't like the other cruel fishermen
that you will never lure fish with false bait
that you do not stab fish with rusty hooks
that you never throw fish away to die if they are not what you imagined up close
that you do not dispose of the fish after the parts you came for are used up
This is your bane
If your only characteristic is your lack of faults
then start a seafood place where the only selling point is that the food isn't poisonous
and watch as the world deems you insane
Let it sink in your brain
that none catch enough fish with only promises and good intentions
the harsh truth is that no fish cares about the person at the end of the fishing line
until they provide good bait
Once you catch a fish's eye as desirable
You need to prove you have the muscle
the bait is useless unless you the have strength to reel
you're going for a keeper not giving out free meals
So for a change do not ask yourself how to catch fish
Ask yourself how to be a fisherman that fish want to be around
You need to understand that catching a fish is not always progress
When you're fighting to keep the fish close by despite the aches and pain
Those are your improvements
The pride is in the process
Your success is your time to sit back and indulge
Yes, there are plenty of fish in the sea
But you won't see many if you don't summon the will to go beyond the beach
