Fixes Poem by Sarah Elizabeth Clark

Fixes

Cheap cologne
is an all consuming smell
but yours was subtle
seductive

I came for somebody like you
with your teeth
and your shoes
yes, I came for you

There was a drink at the bar
you said it was mine
so we left that dive behind
and went out to our cars

Far away wasn’t fast enough
so we pulled over near the corner
and you had me
in a patch of clover

Dirt sticking to our skin
and clinging to our clothes
Your shirt looked expensive
now it looks ruined

When it was over
cigarettes and introductions
I didn’t care for your name
it’s always the same
