Flattened Nose Poem by Francis Duggan

Flattened Nose

For every mistake that we make some price we have to pay
And we learn from experience it's always been that way
Yet some don't ever learn from the mistakes they have made
They don't grow old and wiser though for wisdom they have paid.

Johnny is a good example he is known as 'Flattened Nose'
And he's taken far more beatings than the boxer Lionel Rose
But Lionel Rose the former World Champion was rewarded for his pain
Whilst Johnny gets bruised and battered without financial gain.

Far from a scientific boxer like the famous Archie Moore
Who only fought because he had to fight since he happened to be poor
But all Johnny needs is a few strong ales and he will pick
a fight
He's thirty years and getting on but he's not got it right.

On saturday evening he left the pub with a cut above the eye
And we learn from experience to all does not apply
Johnny is one example he is known as 'Flattened Nose'
And he's taken more beatings than the boxer Lionel Rose.
