Treasure Island

Mandolyn ...

flexing my fingers for you

i want my words to be buff,
so i'll scuff
up my fingers
make them linger
on keys
shift to my knee
tap the left until i pick up a beat

'oh that's neat'
i can hear grandma, she's dead
but her ghost is eating white bread
no mayo
hey, oh
guess what?
there's a bridge coming up
two planks are missing
i can hear a girl hissing
from under the desk

this room is a mess,
a certified dumpster
i can't even bump her
or tell her to shut up-

pretty girls, that's what boys want
pretty nails
that's what girls flaunt

granny is speaking hebrew now
her hair is a vow
to never grow old
or die near a stove
you forgot to turn off...

i like us a lot
me over here and you over
hey, you were just there
now the sun is a square
dancing off the roof of God's mouth

maybe i'll shout
to see if you're magic
let's write something tragic
or not-

EVEN such is Time, that takes in trust

And pays us but with earth and dust;
